Our name, August Berres, is a tribute to a master craftsman who lived over a century ago. Born in Bavaria, August emigrated to the United States in 1852, eventually settling in Northwest Missouri in 1866. He was renowned for his meticulous work, often carving his "AB" initials or branding them onto each piece as a mark of quality.

August Berres primarily crafted furniture from solid walnut, incorporating intricate details like carved wooden drawer pulls and table bases. His systematic approach, utilizing many interchangeable components, allowed for a remarkable breadth of design. While his work also extended to caskets and undertaking (a venture we won't be pursuing!), his dedication to quality and adaptable design principles continue to inspire us.
