Honoring a Legacy of Craftsmanship: The August Berres Story
Our name, August Berres, is a tribute to a master craftsman who lived over a century ago. Born in Bavaria, August emigrated to the United States in 1852, eventually settling in Northwest Missouri in 1866. He was renowned for his meticulous work, often carving his "AB" initials or branding them onto each piece as a mark of quality.
August Berres was known for crafting furniture from solid walnut, featuring intricate details such as carved wooden drawer pulls and table bases. His systematic approach, which utilized many interchangeable components, allowed for a remarkable variety of designs. Although he also worked on caskets and undertakings (a venture we will not be exploring!), his dedication to quality and adaptable design principles continues to inspire us.
